Dolphin & Whale Watching

Drake Bay is well known throughout the country for incredible sightings of humpback whales, which are passing by nearly all year round. You just have to be lucky to see one… But on this day tour far out on the ocean you may spot different species of dolphins, like the spotted, bottlenose or spinner dolphin. Sometimes we are lucky to follow a school of dolphins, which can be 1000 jumping, playing, chasing around the boat! Also, you are likely to watch turtles, different species of booby birds, and the magnificent frigate bird. We provide water, fruit , lunch and a snacks,  just bring sun protection, a hat, your camera and if you have them, binoculars. This 5 hour individual tour leaves at any time and requires a minimum of 4 persons.

Bird watching

It’s your choice to leave at 5:30 in the morning or 3:30 in the afternoon to watch different bird species, such as Scarlet Macaw, Toucan, Trogon or Tanager. Your naturalist guide recognizes most birds by the sound and after the tour you might be able to recognize the sound of a laughing falcon or an antbird… On this 2 ½ hour tour you can easily spot around 40 species of birds! Please wear hiking shoes, and so you have, bring binoculars and of course your camera.

Night frog

Costa Rica is famous for its colorful species of frogs, some of them with toxic skin. One Green and Black Poison Dart Frog for example has enough poison in his skin to kill several humans! These tiny, beautiful amphibians are hard to spot and it takes an experienced guide to find them by their sounds. A frog tour is exciting and if you are very lucky, you may see a Red-eyed Tree Frog, a Granular Poison Dart Frog and a Glass Frog on your tour… But you may also spot other animals like snakes, spiders, sleeping birds or nocturnal mammals on this 2 ½ hour tour which you can start any time after dark.

Caño Island: Snorkeling Tour

The reefs and waters around Caño Island are famous for snorkeling and offer diving at its best. On a snorkeling tour, you are likely to see schools of colourful fish, rays, sharks, morays, or turtles. On this daytrip leaving at 7.30 am, you reach the coast of Caño Island after a 45 min. boat ride. You start a 1 hour snorkeling session directly from the boat. Your guide will point out everything he sees down there and give you names and explanations following the session. After a break on the boat they will takes you to another location for the second snorkel. We recommend staying close to your guide, for he sees marine life you may not spot yourself. After a relaxing break on the beach of San Josecito, you’ll have time to  swim. You return from this adventure around 1.30 pm, depending on whether you see dolphins or a whale on the way!

Later around 1:30pm  you will have lunch in a local restaurant.

The price includes transportation, naturalist guide, marine park entrance, lunch and snorkel equipment.

Caño Island: Diving Tour

The coral and rock formations around Caño Island are one of Costa Rica’s top locations for diving. You may see schools of colorful fish so large, that they sometimes block the sunlight! Rays, sharks, moray eels, barracudas or turtles are likely to be seen. On this daytrip leaving at 7:30am, you reach the coast of Caño Island after a 45 min  boat ride. Depending on the tide, you start a 45 min  dive at the famous »Devil’s Rock« or another wonderful dive site. Your guide will point out everything he sees and give you names and explanations afterwards. After a relax time on the boat infront of Caño Island, the boat takes you to another location for the second dive. We recommend staying close to the guide, for he sees marine life you are unlikely to spot yourself. Followed by a break time on the beach at San Josecito, you’ll have time to relax and swim. You return from this adventure around 1:30pm depending on the whether ,the captain may spot dolphins or a whale on your way! Please bring your diving license and log book.

Later around 1:30pm  you will have lunch in a local restaurant.

The price includes 2 tanks, transportation, marine park entrance, lunch, all diving equipment, and you will be guided by a certified Dive Master

Corcovado: San Pedrillo Station Tour

San Pedrillo is the first station to reach by boat in Corcovado. Leaving for this daytrip at 6 am, a 25 min. boat ride takes you to this beautiful station situated directly on the beach. From there, starts a 3 hour guided hike deep into the forest. There is the possibility to view different species of monkeys (Howler, Spider, Capuchin) as well as Coati, Tapirs, Great Curassow, Agouti, Sloth, Anteater, Crocodile – just to mention a few… them you will start the 1  hour hike up to the waterfall, where you sure like to take a refreshing swim in the river pool. Because this hike follows the river, you may spot a Kingfisher, Heron or Jesus Christ Lizard. When you return to the station, the boat will already be waiting to take you back to Drake Bay. We return at about 1:00 pm- unless we see whales or dolphins on the way. In that case we get back little later…

1:30 pm: We will have lunch in a local restaurant.

Corcovado: Sirena Station Tour

Sirena is the »heart« of the park- close to the beach, but far of any civilization. Leaving Drake Bay at 6am, you’ll reach Sirena beach after a 1 hour beautiful boat ride along the coast. Your naturalist guide takes you on a 4 or 5 housr hike including. There is the possibility to view all 4 species of monkeys (Howler, Spider, Capuchin, Squirrel Monkey) as well as Coati, Great Curassow, Agouti, Sloth, Anteater, Crocodile – just to mention a few. Sirena is well known for sightings of the Baird’s Tapir and you may be lucky to view White-lipped Peccaries or a puma- all endangered species. Heading home to Drake Bay, there is always a chance to spot a Humpback whale or dolphins. You’ll take the boat back from this adventure around 12:30 pm.

1:30 pm you will have lunch in a local restaurant.

Sportfishing Tour

Drake Bay is well known for great sport fishing! You can catch Yellow Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo and Red Snapper for your dinner. Marlin or Sailfish we catch and release. Our captain is well experienced and knows the ocean inside out. You can decide how many hours you want to go out, most people go for the 5 hour tour or the full day tour…

Mangrove Boat Tour

This boat tour, leaving Drake Bay at 7:00am, leads you into the »Terraba- Sierpe National Humid Forest Reserve«. This mangrove forest and swamps covers about 220 sq km and is the largest protected mangrove area within Central America. While floating through mangrove channels, your naturalist guide will point out wildlife such as crocodiles, caimans, turtles, sloths , monkeys or coatis. Mangroves are also a paradise for bird watchers. In the port-town of Sierpe, you will have the possibility for shop some souvenirs. We return from this adventure around 1 pm.Please bring sun protection and your camera.

Price $ 100 per person and include lunch. 

Horseback riding

To go on a horseback riding tour, you don’t need to be an experienced rider. Our horses are well-trained and friendly, and you’ll have the chance to view the jungle from a different angle. We offer half-day tours in the morning or in the afternoon. The guide takes you along the beach, up the mountain, through the river or to a waterfall where you can go for a refreshing swim. You’ll see lots of animals, especially birds and explore hidden trails throughout the rainforest. These individual tours leave any time you like. The afternoon one is great for a sunset watching  stop!
